About the Course
Flood Risk Assessment and Mitigation is a specialized training course designed to equip disaster risk professionals, planners, engineers, environmental specialists, government officials, and emergency managers with the knowledge and practical tools required to assess flood hazards, evaluate vulnerabilities, reduce flood risks, and develop effective mitigation and resilience strategies.Participants will learn to assess hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and risk, while exploring the application of flood mapping, hydrological and hydraulic concepts, GIS, historical data, early-warning systems, and risk modelling. The course also covers both structural and non-structural mitigation measures, including flood defenses, drainage improvements, land-use planning, ecosystem-based approaches, building resilience, community preparedness, and emergency response planning.Through case studies, flood risk mapping exercises, scenario analysis, and mitigation planning activities, participants will develop practical strategies to reduce flood impacts, strengthen preparedness, protect critical infrastructure, and build resilient communities.
