Programme Overview
Training Description
Session Objectives
- Understand the role of geospatial technologies in disaster risk analysis Identify, collect, and process spatial data for risk assessment Use GIS tools to map hazard zones and vulnerable populations Integrate remote sensing data for real-time disaster monitoring Apply spatial analysis to assess exposure, impact, and resilience Support early warning and preparedness with location-based insights Model multi-hazard risk scenarios using geospatial tools
About the Course
Strategic Geospatial Technologies for Disaster Risk Analysis is an advanced training course designed to equip disaster risk professionals, GIS specialists, emergency managers, planners, environmental practitioners, and decision-makers with the knowledge and practical skills required to use geospatial technologies to identify, map, analyze, model, and communicate disaster risks.Key areas include hazard and risk mapping, spatial vulnerability analysis, disaster scenario modelling, remote sensing applications, critical infrastructure mapping, population exposure analysis, early-warning systems, emergency response planning, and geospatial decision-support systems. The course also examines how emerging technologies and data analytics can improve disaster forecasting, preparedness, resource allocation, and resilience planning.Through practical exercises, case studies, mapping activities, and scenario-based analysis, participants will develop the ability to transform complex spatial data into actionable disaster risk intelligence and support evidence-based decisions throughout the disaster management cycle.
